KidPause is a parental screen time management app that helps parents set healthy screen time limits, schedule device pauses, and manage their children's app usage. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this policy, please do not access the Service.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information that you voluntarily provide to us and information that is automatically gathered when you use the Service.

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your:

  • Profile avatar (if provided)
  • Authentication credentials (securely hashed)

Screen Time Data

To provide our core screen time management features, we collect and store:

  • Session durations and screen time history
  • App selections and category preferences
  • Pause schedules and configurations

  • Time limit settings and thresholds

Child Profile Data

When you create child profiles within KidPause, we store the names or nicknames you assign to each profile. These are used solely for display purposes within your account and are not shared externally. No additional personal information about children is collected.

Device Information

To ensure compatibility and deliver a reliable experience, we collect device-related information including device type, operating system version, and app version.

Usage Information

We automatically collect certain information when you use the Service, including:

  • Device type, operating system, and app version
  • Browser type and version (for web usage)

  • Screen Time Management: Configuring and applying app restrictions, managing child profiles, and executing scheduled pauses.
  • Account Management: Creating and maintaining your account, authenticating access, and managing subscription status.
  • Family Features: Supporting multiple child profiles and customized screen time rules per child.
  • Notifications: Sending screen time limit alerts, pause reminders, schedule updates, and usage summaries.
  • Analytics and Improvement: Understanding how users interact with the Service to improve functionality, fix bugs, and develop new features.
  • Customer Support: Responding to your inquiries and resolving issues.
  • Communication: Sending service-related updates and, with your consent, promotional communications. You may opt out of promotional emails at any time.

3. Shortcuts & Automation

KidPause integrates with Apple Shortcuts to allow parents to automate screen time controls. For example, you can create shortcuts to instantly pause a child's device, activate a bedtime schedule, or adjust screen time limits hands-free.

Important details about our Shortcuts integration:

  • Shortcuts actions are processed locally on your device and through our secure servers to apply screen time changes.
  • No additional personal data is collected through Shortcuts beyond what is already described in this policy.
  • Shortcut configurations are stored within your Apple Shortcuts app and are not accessible to us.
  • The Shortcuts integration is optional and does not affect core KidPause functionality if not used.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard infrastructure and encryption. We implement the following security measures:

  • All data is transmitted over SSL/TLS encrypted connections.
  • User authentication credentials are securely hashed and never stored in plain text.
  • Database access is restricted with row-level security policies, ensuring users can only access their own data.
  • Child profile data is stored in encrypted cloud storage with strict access controls.
  • We regularly review and update our security practices to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of your data.

While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal data, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee its absolute security.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate and improve the Service. Each service processes data in accordance with its own privacy policy:

  • Supabase: Database hosting, user authentication, and file storage. Supabase provides enterprise-grade security with row-level access controls and encrypted storage.
  • Apple Screen Time APIs: KidPause leverages Apple's Screen Time and Family Controls frameworks to manage app restrictions and enforce screen time limits on children's devices. All Screen Time data is processed in accordance with Apple's privacy guidelines.
  • Adapty: Subscription management and in-app purchase processing. Payment details are handled by Apple App Store and Google Play Store; we do not directly collect or store payment card information.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • Service Providers: With the third-party services listed above, solely for the purpose of operating the Service.
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
  • Protection of Rights: To protect the rights, property, or safety of KidPause, our users, or others.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Service. Specifically:

  • Account Data: Retained until you delete your account.
  • Screen Time Records: Retained until you delete the specific records or your account.
  • Child Profile Data: Retained until you remove the child profile or delete your account.
  • Analytics Data: Retained in anonymized form for product improvement purposes.

When you request account deletion, your personal data will be permanently removed from our systems within 72 hours. Some anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for analytical purposes. Inactive accounts (no login for 24 months or more) may be automatically deleted.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data and account.

  • Objection: Object to the processing of your personal data for certain purposes.

9. Children's Privacy

KidPause is designed for parents and guardians to manage their children's screen time. Children do not create accounts or interact with the Service directly. All accounts are created and managed by parents or legal guardians.

We are committed to compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations worldwide. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13. The only child-related data we store consists of names or nicknames that parents provide when setting up child profiles, along with screen time usage data associated with those profiles.

Parents retain full control over their children's profile data at all times and may view, modify, or delete any child profile and its associated data through the app. If you believe that a child has somehow provided personal information to us without parental consent, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to remove that information.

Our website may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your browsing experience. These include:

  • Essential Cookies: Required for the website to function properly, such as language preferences and session management.
  • Analytics Cookies: Used to understand how visitors interact with our website, helping us improve content and user experience.
